Colts fall to the Buccaneers of Atlantic Cape

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (March 27, 2021) – Colts offense limited as Atlantic Cape came out swinging early and often.

Game 1 (16-2 Loss) – Atlantic Cape took control of the game quickly and never looked back as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after 2 innings. Middlesex pitching was unable to keep their hitters off balance all game long as they pounded out 19 hits and 16 runs through 6 innings. The lone bright spots for the Colts were Josh Hernandez (West Palm Beach, FL/Park Vista) and Christian Petrillo (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick). Hernandez had an RBI double while Petrillo doubled twice and scored a run. Bryan Fernandez (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) also doubled while Angel Cora (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had a base hit and scored a run.

Game 2 (5-3 Loss) – In the nightcap, Middlesex pitching only allowed 2 hits throughout the game, but the base on balls continued to haunt the pitching staff. Frank Shipman (Edison, NJ/Edison), took the loss on the mound tossing 3.1 innings allowing 1 hit and 2 earned runs while striking out 5. Hernandez came on to throw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. He struck out 4 batters and only allowed 1 hit. The Colts offense was unable to string together a rally for most of the day. Christian Petrillo drove home a pair of runs with a base hit, Chris Born (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and Tyler Sharfetz (Fords, NJ/John F. Kennedy) each had 2 hits, while Vin Powers (Colonia, NJ/John F. Kennedy) had an RBI base hit to cap off the offense for Middlesex.
