Pozo dominates on the mound as Colts earn a split with Camden
CAMDEN, NJ (April 10, 2021) – Ryan Pozo earns his first collegiate victory in strong outing against the Camden Cougars.
Game 1 (10-2 Win) – Ryan Pozo (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge), picked up the win on the mound tossing 5.2 innings while only allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Pozo was in complete control from the first inning as he did not allow a hit until the 4th and finished his outing with 10 K's. Josh Hernandez (West Palm Beach, FL/Park Vista) came on to strikeout his only batter he faced with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Isaiah Figueroa (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) closed out the win with a scoreless 7th inning. Chris Born (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) led the way with 2 hits, 2 runs and 1 RBI. Hernandez added a pair of RBI's while Angel Cora (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) and Vincent Powers (Colonia, NJ/John F. Kennedy) each had an RBI. Thomas Massaro (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield), Christian Petrillo (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick), Bryan Fernandez (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) and Born all scored 2 runs each.
Game 2 (9-8 Loss) – In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Colts came up just short as Camden walked off with 2 outs in the 7th inning. Trailing 6-0 after 2, the Middlesex offense began to chip away at the lead. Chris Born had 2 more RBI, Josh Hernandez had a pair of hits, including a double, and Bryan Fernandez had an RBI base hit. Trailing 8-5 in their final at bat, the Colts put together a gritty rally off the Cougars closer. Hernandez led off with a base hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tyler Sharfetz (Fords, NJ/John F. Kennedy) lined a base hit to drive home Hernandez to cut the lead to 8-6. Angel Cora followed with a 2-strike base hit putting runners at the corners with no outs. After a strikeout and a stolen base, Vin Powers advanced both runners with a ground out to trim Camden's lead to 8-7. With 2 away, Luke Monsorno (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) hit a slow roller to third and with the third basemen rushing to make the play he threw the ball away to allow for Cora to score and tie the game at 8. Middlesex would not score again in their half of the 7th and eventually fall on a 2-out base hit in the bottom of the inning to give Camden the walk-off 9-8 win.
