PETRILLO WALKOFF LEADS MIDDLESEX TO 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

Christian Petrillo delivered Nicholas Loniewski with an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to lead Middlesex College to a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Kingsborough Community College.

The game was called after eight innings due to darkness. The win was the fourth straight for the Colts, who moved to 6-3 on the season.

Middlesex fell behind 4-0 through two and a half innings, but scored single runs in the third through eighth innings to come back for the win. 

The Colts scored their first run in the botttom of the third when Christopher Born (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on a Kingsborough error. 

In the fourth, Jack Barry (Freshman/Metuchen, NJ) led off with a single, stole second and scored on a wild pitch.

Born led off the fifth with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Petrillo (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) and the Colts finally tied the game at four in the sixth when Jordan Brown (Freshman/Piscataway, NJ) scored on a wild pitch.

Middlesex took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh when Born reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a passed ball. It was his third run of the day.

Going into the eighth inning, the uumpires informed both teams that it would be the final inning due to darkness. Kingsborough (0-1) tied the game at five with a one-out double, setting the stage for Petrillo's heroics in the bottom of the frame.

With two outs and noobody on, Vincent Powers (Freshman/Colonia, NJ) and Born drew back-to-back walks and Petrillo drove home Loniewski, who pinch ran for Powers. It wwas the Colts second walkoff win in four days, having done the same to Camden CC earlier last week.

Ryan Pozo (Freshman/Fords, NJ) pitched the last three innings for Middlesex and picked up the win in relief. Gage Bendix (Freshman/Piscataway, NJ) was also impressive on the mound for the Colts. He came on in relief of starter Michael Smith (Freshmman/Edison, NJ) in the second and held Kingsborough to just one unearned run over 3.2 innings.

Petrillo was 2-5 with 2 RBIs and Born was 1-2 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored. Each stole two bases without being caught. The Colts stole eight bases in nine attempts in the game.

Middlesex returns to the diamond Saturday when they face Westmoreland CC on the first day of their trip to the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
