RAMIREZ DELIVERS IN WALKOFF WIN FOR MIDDLESEX COLLEGE
Braden Ramirez stroked a two-run walk-off single down the right field line, delivering Christopher Born and Christian Petrillo as Middlesex College came from behind to beat the College of Southern Maryland 5-4 at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
The win is the eighth in the past nine games for the Colts and moves their record to 10-4 on the season.
Southern Maryland jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Middlesex, but the Colts evened the score in the bottom of the second. Jordan Brown (Freshman/Piscataway, NJ) singled to lead off the frame and Colby Chippendale (Freshman/North Port, FL) doubled behind him. Brown came in to score on an RBI single from Connor Luckie (Freshman/Hamilton, NJ) and Chippendale scored on a fielder's choice by Nicholas Loniewski (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ).
Southern Maryland (10-7) regained the lead on a leadoff home run in the third, but Colts starter Ryan Pozo (Freshman/Fords, NJ) locked things down from there. Pozo didn't allow a run over the final four innings, pitching out of jams in the fourth and seventh, to earn the complete game win.
Middlesex trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh, but wasted no time in delivering the dramatic win. Born led off the inning with a single and advanced to third when Petrillo followed with a double. Ramirez then drove both home, giving the Colts their third walkoff win of the season.
The Colts had 12 hits on the day with Petrillo, Ramirez and Brown each delivering two hits. Ramirez had three RBIs in the game.
Middlesex wraps up their trip to Myrtle Beach tomorrow when they face off against North Central Missouri College with first pitch scheduled for 9:00AM.
