MIDDLESEX BASEBALL TROUNCES DIVISION II RARITAN VALLEY 16-2
Gage Bendix allowed just three hits and two runs over six innings and Jordan Brown scored four runs, stole three bases and had two RBI singles as Middlesex College routed NJCAA Division II Raritan Valley 16-2.
With the win, the Colts move to 27-15 on the season and are one of just three Region XIX schools regardless of division to have that many wins.
Middlesex got on the board first when Christian Petrillo (Freshman/North Brunswick, NJ) stole second, third and home to give the Colts their first run of the game.
The Colts broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the second inning on RBI hits by Brown, Kiefer Goss (Freshman/Hamilton, NJ), and Vincent Powers (Freshman/Colonia, NJ).
Middlesex scored three more runs in the fourth and Braden Ramirez (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) became the first Middlesex player to ever reach the 50 RBI when his triple drove home Petrillo to extend the Middlesex lead to 8-1.
The Colts broke things open in the fifth with five runs and then added three more in the bottom of the sixth to give them the decisive margin.
Isaiah Figueroa (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) struck out the side in the seventh in relief of Bendix.
Petrillo added another record to his incredible 2022 season when he scored three runs to give him 54 on the season. The previous record was 53, which was set by Sam Abreu in 2019.
This was the fourth time in nine games that Middlesex has scored at least 15 runs in a game.
Middlesex is back in action Thursday when they host Delaware County Community College with first pitch coming at 3:30pm.
