MIDDLESEX BASEBALL NOTCHES 20TH WIN IN DH SWEEP OF MONTGOMERY CC

Middlesex College Baseball has reached the 20 win mark with an offensive outburst that produced 37 hits and 35 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Montgomery County College.

The Colts topped the Mustangs 15-2 in Game 1 and 20-4 in Game 2. Middlesex moved to 20-10 on the season while Montgomery fell to 12-5.

In Game 1, the Colts pounded out 18 hits and took advantage of eight Montgomery errors and scored in every inning except the fourth. The big inning for Middlesex came in the fifth when they scored seven runs to put the game out of reach.

Thomas O'Halloran (Freshman/Fords, NJ) led the way for Middlesex, going 2-3 with five RBIs and a run scored. Giovanni Aresta (Sophomore/Old Bridge, NJ) had the only three-hit game for the Colts, going 3-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and two doubles.

Nick Loniewski (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ), Jordan Brown (Sophomore/Piscataway, NJ) and Roberto Gonzalez (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) had two hits each for Middlesex in support of Ryan Pozo (Sophomore/Fords, NJ), who pitched into the sixth to move to 5-1 on the season.

Pozo allowed just one hit over 5.2 innings while striking out seven and walking one. Thomas Niedermaier (Sophomore/Bordentown, NJ) and Michael Mulkeen (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) came on in relief to close things out in Game 1.

In Game 2, Middlesex jumped out to an early lead with five first inning runs. Montgomery answered with two runs in each of the second and third innings to make the score 5-4, but the Colts answered in a big way with eight runs over the next two innings to essentially put the game out of reach.

Middlesex tacked on seven runs over the last two innings to reach their final margin.

Four Colts had three-hit games to fuel the offense. Brown went 3-4 with a run, four RBIs and three stolen bases to lead the way. With his three steals, Brown moved up to third in Region XIX in stolen bases.

Connor Luckie (Sophomore/Hamilton, NJ) went 3-4 with four runs and two RBIs, Joseph Haytas (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) went 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Braden Ramirez (Sophomore/Middlesex, NJ) went 3-4 with a run, two RBIs and a double.

Ryan Poulson (Freshman/Milltown, NJ) picked up the win in Game 2.

In the doubleheader, Pozo picked up his 100th career strikeout on the mound and Ramirez notched his 100th career base hit.

Middlesex returns to the diamond Monday at 3:30PM when they travel to RCSJ-Cumberland to complete a series started earlier this year. Cumberland won the first two games of the series at Middlesex.
