ISAIAH FIGUEROA NAMED NJCAA D3 NATIONAL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Middlesex College Baseball recently completed a three-game sweep of Brookdale CC, who was the #6 ranked team in the nation among NJCAA Division III teams at the time.

The Colts nailed down the sweep on the back of a dominant performance by sophomore Pitcher Isaiah Figueroa and now the righty is gaining recognition for his accomplishment.

Figueroa was named the NJCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week for his performance.

Figueroa is the third Colt to be named National Player of the Week this year, joining softball player Carla Seyfarth and Jayson Vassallo from the Men's Soccer team.

After winning the first two games of the three-game set against Brookdale, Middlesex Head Coach sent Figueroa to the mound looking for the seep and the righty responded with the best performance of his career.

Figueroa allowed a solo home run to the first batter of the game, but recovered in a big way from there. He allowed just one hit and one walk the remainder of the game and faced just one batter over the minimum. Figueroa struck out a career-high 12 batters in seven innings, hurling his second career complete game.

For the season, Figueroa is 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 30 innings. His 12.9 k/9 ratio is the 8th best rate in the country among NJCAA Division III pitchers who have pitched at least 30 innings.

Making Figueroa's accomplishment even more impressive was that it came against Brookdale, one of the top offensive teams in the country. Brookdale's 319 runs are second in Region XIX and ninth in the nation. They are batting .345 as a team and averaging close to nine runs per game.

Middlesex, currently the 13th ranked team in the nation in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll, is currently on a 12-game winning streak and is set to take on Bergen CC this weekend for a three-game set. The Colts are 25-10 on the season, this being the second straight season they have reached 25 wins.
