CONNOR LUCKIE NAMED NJCAA D3 NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Charlotte, NC - Middlesex College (NJ) sophomore catcher Connor Luckie has been named the 2023 NJCAA Division III Baseball Defensive Player of the Year.

Luckie was named a 2023 Gold Glove earner last week, after fielding a .998 fielding percentage from behind the dish. They finished the 2023 season with 382 putouts, the second most in the nation while throwing out the fifth most runners in the nation with 17. He is the first in school history to be named a Gold Glove recipient as well as Defensive Player of the Year.

"Connor is an outstanding individual, someone who others gravitate toward and a pleasure to have in the locker room. He was a key part of the overall success of our program. It is not only his on-field playing ability, it is his leadership skills and the way he plays the game that defines him. It was like having another coach on the field at all times. His presence and tireless effort made others around him better," Middlesex Colts head coach CJ Mooney said.

As a hitter, Luckie finished with a .391 batting average, along with 13 doubles, 3 home runs, and 55 RBI. The Colts season came to an end in the North Atlantic District Final Four against Brookdale (NJ), where Luckie went 2/4 with two doubles and a stolen base.

"I am really happy for Connor and his entire family. His parents were some of our biggest supporters and they did an excellent job raising a respectful and hard-working young man," Coach Mooney said.
