Middlesex College's bats stayed hot in the cold weather and the pitching was solid as the Colts swept a home doubleheader from Orange CC.
Middlesex won Game 1 by a score of 12-2 and took Game 2, 13-3.
The Colts were coming off a three-game sweep of Ocean CC and has now won eight straight games after a season-opening one-run loss to Suffolk CC and are 8-1 on the season.
Against Orange, Middlesex jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first inning with two-RBI hits delivered by Drew Lukachyk (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) and Jhoalvin Ledesma (Freshman/Carteret, NJ).
Antonio Friedman (Freshman/Trenton, NJ) belted a two-run homer in the third and Ledesma and Trevor Myers (Freshman/Easthampton, NJ) each drove in a run in the fourth.
The Colts capped their scoring in the fifth with RBI singles by Conor Drury (Sophomore/North Brunswick, NJ) and Joshua Rodriguez (Sophomore/North Brunswick, NJ).
While the Colts offense was cooking, the pitching staff was doing their work to limit Orange to just two hits and two runs. Ryan Rzepinski (Sophomore/Bayonne, NJ) got the start and picked up the win for the Colts. The righty allowed two hits and two runs while striking out four.
Maurice Hedderman (Freshman/South Amboy, NJ) pitched two perfect innings in relief to close out the win.
Friedman went 2-3 with a homer, double, two runs and two RBIs. Ledesma went 2-3 with two runs and three RBIs.
In Game 2, Middlesex fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first, but rallied for 11 runs in the first three innings to take a commanding lead in support of John Ryan (Freshman/East Brunswick, NJ). The Colts tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth on their way to the 13-3 victory.
Acquisto went 2-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs. The freshman first baseman had six multi-RBI games this season and currently leads the nation with 23 RBIs.
Drew Lukachyk went 2-2 with a double, three runs, two walks and an RBI.
Julian Collado (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ), Angel Deaza (Sophomore/Elizabeth, NJ), Ledesma and Friedman also had multi-hit games as the Colts banged out 14 hits in the five-inning affair.
Ryan pitched the first five innings and allowed just one earned run. He struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits.
Middlesex is scheduled to return to the diamond on Wednesday when they take on Montgomery CC, weather permitting. First pitch is scheduled for 12PM.
