BARREIROS NETS TWO GOALS IN COLTS 4-0 WIN OVER BERGEN COMMUNITY
Matias Barreiros scored two goals and added an assist to lead Middlesex College Men's Soccer to their first win of the season, a 4-0 home victory over Bergen Community College.
Claudio Lopez (Freshman/Dunellen, NJ) and Efrain Mendoza-Reyes (Freshman/New Brunswick, NJ) also found the back of the net for the Colts (1-3-1).
"Our men deserved this victory," said Head Coach Javier Velasquez. "They showed discipline defensively and were able to finish some of their many chances."
Middlesex dominated play through the first half, holding a large advantage in possession while playing a majority of the half on Bergen's side of the field. Barreiros scored early off a pass from Jamie Madrid (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ), but the Bulldogs kept Middlesex off the board for the rest of the half.
"We dominated the game from beginning to end," said Velasco. "We concentrated for 90 minutes and got a positive result. Now we have to prepare for our next game against Sussex on Saturday."
The Colts built their lead in the second half as Lopez, Mendoza-Reyes and Barreiros all tallied goals.
Jayson Vassallo (Freshman/South River, NJ) got the start and played 85 minutes in goal for Middlesex. He registered four saves for the Colts. Jeremy Madrid (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ) started the second half in goal for the Colts, but was injured early. Jamie Madrid added two assists while Barreiros and Andrew Solomon (Freshman/Edison, NJ) each had one assist.
Middlsex returns to the pitch Saturday when they travel to Sussex Community College for a 12:00 match.
