Middlesex Men's Soccer got a first half goal from Matias Barreiros and Jayson Vassallo and Jeremy Madrid combined for seven saves as the Colts tied with Sussex County College, the nation's 9th ranked team, 1-1.
Middlesex (1-3-3) scored in the first half and the Skylanders (0-0-2) knotted the game in the second half. Both teams were scoreless across two overtime periods.
"They had three guys that were taller than all of our players and they took advantage of that to score on a free kick in the second half," said Head Coach Javier Velasco. "Our men worked hard for 110 minutes against a very good team."
Barreiros (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) scored his third goal in two games when he converted a through ball from Jamie Madrid (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ).
Sussex, one of the top teams in New Jersey, was coming off a 1-1 tie with Camden, the nation's third ranked team. The Skylanders were ranked number 9 in the country in the latest NJCAA poll coming into the match.
Middlesex returns to the pitch Tuesday when they travel to Rowan College of South Jersey-Camden fot a 4:00PM match.
