Jayvian Mandry broke a scoreless tie with the fifth goal of his freshman campaign and the Middlesex College defense, led by goalie Sebastian Grisales, recorded their fourth shutout of the season as Middlesex College topped Union College 2-0 in Region 19 Men's Soccer action.
The won boosted the Colts record to 7-2-1 on the season and was their fourth straight victory.
The matchup with Union was a decidedly defensive matchup as the teams generated few scoring chances in the first half as the game went to the break 0-0.
The Colts broke through less than five minutes into the second half though when Samuel Rodriguez (Freshman/Roselle, NJ) sent a cross into the box, which was volleyed into the net by Mandry for a beautiful goal to give Middlesex a 1-0 advantage.
The game remained close and physical until Rodriguez gave Middlesex a little breathing room with his fifth goal of the season in the 67th minute.
The Colts were able to remain stout on defense and completed the shutout for the 2-0 win. Three of the Colts last four wins have come via shutout.
Grisales played the entire game in net and stopped all seven shots he faced.
