LADY COLTS FALL IN SEASON OPENER
The Lady Colts traveled to Rowan College of South Jersey – Gloucester on Saturday, March 20, where they were defeated 10-2 and 11-2 by the pre-season #6 team in the country. The DH marked the return of college softball for Middlesex College, taking the field for the first time since 2018.
In the first game, the Colts fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game 2-2 in 6th inning, getting an RBI double from Jessica Freeman (Carteret H.S.), and an RBI single from her high school teammate, Jennah Schiraldo. RCSJ- Gloucester then erupted for 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge H.S.) was the hard luck loser as she was victimized by a defense that committed 8 errors. Only 3 of the Roadrunners runs were earned.
Leading 2-0 heading into the third inning, RCSJ-Gloucester erupted for 9 runs in the third inning, outhitting the Colts 9-7 to sweep the twinbill. Julie Davis (South Plainfield) led the Colts offense with 2 doubles and an RBI. Chloe Oblepias (Carteret H.S.) also chipped in with a double and an RBI. Kaitlynne McCarthy, Jennah Schiraldo, Jessica Freeman, and Alida Pellicane all had hits for Middlesex.
The Colts are back in action on Tuesday, March 23, hosting C.C. of Morris in their home opener. First game starts at 3:30 pm.
