Lady Colts Split Pair in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

The Lady Colts dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision in the opener against Northampton C.C. on Saturday. The Colts allowed 2 unearned runs in the first inning and then loaded the bases in the top of the 7th, where the game ended with a line-drive out to CF. Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge HS) was outstanding in the circle, allowing only 3 base hits and 1 earned in suffering the complete game loss. The Colts outhit the Spartans 8-3, and were led by McCarthy, Jennah Schiraldo (Carteret HS), and Abby Jason (J.P. Stevens HS), who all collected 2 hits.

In recording their first win of the year – the Lady Colts staged a 4-run 7th inning rally to overcome a 6-5 deficit and defeat the Spartans by a score of 9-6. Abby Jason, Kaitlynne McCarthy, Julie Davis (So.Plainfield HS), Jessica Freeman (Carteret HS), and Chloe Oblepias (Carteret HS) all contributed hits in the inning. Katelyn Herman (EB Tech HS) added a key sacrifice bunt to the rally and Shayla Benbow (Piscataway HS) executed a perfect safety squeeze bunt to propel the Lady Colts to victory. McCarthy was once again stellar on the mound, entering in the first inning with one out, and going the rest of the way to earn her first college win. She allowed only 5 hits and 2 earned runs in 6.2 innings of work. She also helped her own cause with 2 hits, including a triple, and 2 RBI's. Abby Jason collected 3 hits, including a double, and scored 2 runs. Julie Davis added 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI's.

Alida Pellicane (Edison HS) at second base, Chloe Oblepias (SS), Jennah Schiraldo (3B), Julie Davis (C), and Abby Jason (CF) played outstanding defense all day for the Lady Colts, who are back in action on Tuesday, March 30, at Sussex County College for a DH starting a 3:30pm.
