Lady Colts Sweep Sussex CC
The Lady Colts rode the brilliant pitching of Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge HS) to a 10-2 (5 innings) and 10-1 (6 innings) doubleheader sweep of the Sussex County C.C. Skylanders in Newton, N.J., on Tuesday. McCarthy allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk in each game. The Lady Colts collected 14 hits in the DH, and only committed 1 total error in the two games, which was their most complete series of the season.
n game one, the Lady Colts led 3-2 before exploding for 7 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Alida Pellicane (Edison HS) had the big hit in the inning, a 3-run triple to left field. Madison Buttitta (J.F. Kennedy HS) collected 2 hits, including a triple, a stolen base, and 1 RBI. McCarthy also chipped in with 2 hits, and Abigail Jason (J.P. Stevens HS) added a triple and an RBI to the Lady Colts attack. Chloe Oblepias, Jennah Schiraldo, and Jessica Freeman, all from Carteret HS, scored 2 runs each, and Katlyn Herman (EB Tech HS) recorded her first collegiate hit.
In game two, the Lady Colts fell behind 1-0 after one inning, but then scored runs in every inning to sweep the Skylanders and improve their record to 3-5 on the young season. Jennah Schiraldo collected 3 hits, and Kaitlynne McCarthy added 2 hits to lead the Lady Colts attack. Alida Pellicane and McCarthy drove in two runs apiece. Madison Buttitta, Jessica Freeman, and Jennah Schiraldo all scored two runs in the game. Dominique Liantonio (Mother Seton HS) made her collegiate debut, reaching base and scoring a run in the 5th inning.
Middle infielders Chloe Oblepias and Abigail Jason were stellar defensively all day, turning double plays in each game to go along with several other fielding gems.
