LADY COLTS SPLIT WITH NATIONS #5 TEAM, RCSJ-GLOUCESTER
The Lady Colts posted a huge upset in game one in Edison on Saturday, defeating RCSJ-Gloucester, the nations #5 ranked Division 3 Junior College, by a score of 8-0. That was also their 5th straight win. The Colts lost the nightcap 10-7, as they battled back from an early deficit only to have the game end with the tying run at the plate.
Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge H.S.) was outstanding on the mound in game one, pitching a complete game (5 innings) 2-hitter. She also collected a hit and a walk, and she scored 2 runs. Madison Buttitta (J.F. Kennedy H.S.), Julie Davis (So. Plainfield H.S.), and Jessica Freeman (Carteret H.S.) all had 2 hits for the Lady Colts. Freeman also added 2 RBI's. Alida Pellicane (Edison H.S.) had 2 hits, including an inside the park homerun, along with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. The Lady Colts played their most complete game of the season, totaling 12 hits and playing flawless defense.
In the nightcap, the Lady Colts fell behind 5-0 after the first inning, and lost 10-7. They battled back all game with the help of 9 hits, but 4 defensive errors and several other miscues were too much to overcome. Jennah Schiraldo (Carteret H.S.) collected 3 hits and 2 RBI's to lead the offense, and Jessica Freeman added 2 hits, including a double, and scored 2 runs. Madison Buttitta chipped in with a triple, walk, and stolen base, and Alida Pellicane contributed 2 more RBI's with a single and sacrifice fly.
The Lady Colts are back in action on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Mercer C.C.C. in West Windsor. First game begins at 3:30 pm. The Lady Colts return home to face Northampton C.C. on Thursday, April 15, 2021. The completion of the halted game from last week will begin at 3pm with the Lady Colts batting in the top of the 7th inning, trailing 11-6. The first game of the DH will begin immediately after the conclusion of the halted game.
