LADY COLTS DROP PAIR TO DIVISION 2 MERCER CCC IN WEST WINDSOR

Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge) was stellar on the mound for the Lady Colts, pitching complete games in both ends of the DH, but was victimized by poor defense as she absorbed 2-1 and 4-2 losses to Mercer C.C.C. in West Windsor on Tuesday.

In game 1, the Lady Colts were leading 1-0 in the 5th inning on a groundout by Jennah Schiraldo (Carteret) that scored Madison Buttitta (J.F. Kennedy), who reached on an infield single and had 2 stolen bases to get into scoring position. The Lady Colts had 2 outs in the bottom of the inning when an infield error allowed 2 unearned runs to score. McCarthy only allowed 2 hits in suffering the loss in a game that ended with the tying run on third base. Buttitta had 2 hits to pace the Colts.

In the nightcap, Kaitlynne McCarthy's 2 run HR in the third inning staked the Lady Colts to a 2-1 lead. Mercer tied the game in the 5th on a double, and once again a 2-run infield throwing error allowed the Vikings to escape with another victory. McCarthy went the distance, allowing only 1 earned run in 6 innings of work. Schiraldo had 2 hits to lead the 8-hit attack.

McCarthy threw 2 complete games and 12 innings on the day, allowing only 1 earned run and collecting 6 strikeouts. The Lady Colts collected 11 hits in the DH, but recorded 16 strikeouts, many of which came with runners on base and in scoring position.

The Lady Colts are back in action on Thursday, April 15, for a DH against Northampton C.C. The completion of the halted game, in which the Lady Colts trail 11-6 in the top of the 7th, will start at 3pm. The regular DH will immediately follow the completion of the halted game.
