LADY COLTS DROP PAIR TO DIVISION 2 C.C. OF MORRIS
The Lady Colts battled back from a 6-1 deficit in game 1, only to lose 8-7 on a walk-off 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Lady Colts held a 6-2 lead in game 2, but C.C. Morris came storming back to complete the sweep with a 10-6 victory in a game halted after 5 innings because of darkness.
Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge H.S.) went the distance in game 1, allowing 11 hits and 6 earned runs, while recording 6 strikeouts. Offensively, she added a double and 2 RBIs. Jennah Schiraldo (Carteret H.S.), Jessica Freeman (Carteret H.S.) and Abigail Jason (J.P. Stevens H.S.) all collected 2 hits in the game. The Lady Colts used a 5-run 6th inning to tie the game at 6, as Freeman and McCarthy contributed RBI doubles, and Schiraldo added a sac fly RBI. The Lady Colts took the lead in the top of the 8th inning on a sac bunt by Katelyn Herman (E.B. Tech H.S.), followed by a sac fly from Madison Buttitta (J.F. Kennedy H.S.), which scored Alida Pellicane (Edison H.S.). The Colts were beaten by a 2 run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the inning.
The Lady Colts jumped out to 6-2 lead in game 2, but C.C. Morris battled back to claim a 10-6 victory. Angelina Amato (Piscataway H.S.) and Alyssa Dima (Manville H.S.) were both effective in relief in the game shortened to 5 innings because of darkness. Kaitlynne McCarthy blasted a second inning grand slam for the Colts. Julie Davis (South Plainfield H.S.), Madison Buttitta, and Jennah Schiraldo all collected 2 hits, and Angelina Amato added an RBI single.
The Lady Colts are back in action on Friday afternoon at home to face Northampton C.C. – the completion of the halted game will start at 3 pm with the Colts batting in the top of the 7th inning, trailing 11-6. Immediately following that game the teams will play a DH.
