Lady Colts Sweep Montgomery C.C.C. in Blue Bell, PA.
The Lady Colts defeated Montgomery C.C.C. by scores of 15-1 and 18-3, in two 5-innings games on Saturday. The Colts got two complete game efforts from Kaitlynne McCarthy (Woodbridge H.S.) and Alyssa Dima (Manville H.S.), limiting Montgomery to 4 hits on the day. The Colts racked up 20 hits and only committed 1 error on the afternoon to improve their season record to 10-14.
In the opener, Kaitlynne McCarthy gave up a 4th inning single and recorded 5 strikeouts and one walk in recording her 9th victory of the season. Madison Buttita (J.K. Kennedy H.S.) led the offense, going 2-2 with a double, 3 walks, 3 runs scored, and 4 stolen bases. Angelina Amato (Piscataway H.S.) added a double and 3 RBI's, and Abby Jason (J.P. Stevens H.S.), McCarthy, Julie Davis (South Plainfield H.S.), and Chloe Oblepias (Carteret H.S.) all collected 2 RBI's each. Shayla Benbow (Piscataway H.S.), making her debut at first base, collected her first collegiate hit while also recording an RBI. Alida Pellicane (Edison H.S.) and Alyssa Dima added RBI's. The Colts played flawless defense, led by Jason's 5 assists and Benbow's 8 putouts.
In the nightcap, Alyssa Dima spun a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks to record her first collegiate mound victory. She also added a double and knocked in 2 runs to help her cause. Buttitta had another big game, going 3-4 with a triple and 5 RBI's. Angelina Amato added 2 hits and 3 RBI's to the Colts 12 hit attack. Kaitlynne McCarthy contributed a double, an RBI, and 3 runs scored, while Julie Davis had 2 hits, an RBI, and scored 4 runs. Chloe Oblepias collected 2 RBI's and Abby Jason added a double and RBI, along with a stolen base and 2 runs scored.
Over her last 4 games, Madison Buttitta has gone 11-14 with 5 extra base hits, 7 runs scored, 7 RBI's, 4 bases on balls, and 4 stolen bases.
The Lady Colts have now won 5 out of their last 6 games, and are currently in second place heading into the last week of the regular season with 4 conference games slated against Sussex C.C. (Thursday – 3:30 pm) and RCSJ-Cumberland (Saturday – 12 noon), both at the Lady Colts Softball Complex in Edison.
The play-offs are set to begin the week of May 10 at the home field of the higher seeded teams. More info will follow at the conclusion of Saturday's games.
