MIDDLESEX SOFTBALL SWEEPS ORANGE CC IN SEASON OPENER

Middlesex College opened their season by sweeping a home doubleheader from Orange County Community College by scores of 5-4 and 10-2.

Kailtlynne McCarthy (Sophomore/Port Reading, NJ) threw a seven inning complete game, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts, to lead the Colts (2-0) to a 5-4 victory in game one.

Olivia Tirso (Freshman/Elizabeth, NJ) had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs, to lead the Colts offense. Julie Davis (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) had two doubles and an RBI and Destiny Gonzalez (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) also added two hits in her college debut. The Colts trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, when they struck for two runs with Tirso and Davis delivering the big hits in the inning.

In game two, a 10-2, 5 inning victory for the Colts, Chloe Oblepias (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) pitched four solid innings of three-hit ball before giving way to Alyssa Dima (Sophomore/Manville, NJ), who recorded a strikeout in her one inning of work. Abigail Jason (Sophomore/Edison, NJ) and Oblepias each collected two hits to lead the Colts 10-hit attack. Davis and Dima both added two RBIs.

Making their college debuts, Tirso, Gonzalez, Hannah Cotayo (Freshman/Carteret, NJ) and Olivia Vranica (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) all collected their first college hits in the doubleheader.

The Colts are back in action tomorrow, as they host Monroe CC of the Bronx, N.Y., in another doubleheader. First pitch of Game 1 starts at 3:30PM.
