MIDDLESEX SOFTBALL MOVES TO 8-1 WITH SWEEP OF CAMDEN CC

Middlesex College finished off a 4-0 week by defeating Camden 11-1 in Game 1, and 5-1 in the nightcap, to improve their record to 8-1 on the season. The Colts, who entered the day ranked #4 in the country in team batting average, outscored their opponents 38-7 during the four-game stretch.

In Game 1, Kaitlynne McCarthy (Sophomore/Port Reading, NJ) pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing five hits and only one earned run, while striking out six. She also added two doubles and collected three RBIs, while scoring two runs.

Jennah Schiraldo (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) had another three-hit game, her third in a row, to go along with an RBI, and two runs scored. Julie Davis (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) added a double and two RBIs and Destiny Gonzalez (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) collected two doubles and an RBI, while scoring one run.  Abigail Jason (Sophomore/Edison, NJ) had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.  Chloe Oblepias (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) had a double among her two hits, and also scored two runs. Hannah Cotayo (Freshman/Carteret, NJ) and Alyssa Dima (Sophomore/Manville, NJ) added RBIs.

In the nightcap, McCarthy once again tossed a complete game, going seven innings while allowing five hits and one earned run, to go along with eight strikeouts. Olivia Tirso (Freshman/Elizabeth, NJ), Davis, Jason, and Schiraldo all collected two hits and an RBI to help the offense. Tirso had two doubles and Davis had one, as the Colts pounded out 10 hits.

The Colts collected 15 hits in game one, and added another 10 hits in Game 2. They finish the week with an overall record of 8-1, and 4-0 in the conference.

Two players had huge weeks for the Colts. Pitcher Kaitlynne McCarthy tossed four complete game victories, including a five-inning no-hitter against Lehigh Carbon. She gave up 15 hits and only five earned runs in the over games. She only walked one batter, while striking out 25. She recorded a 1.59 ERA, and held opponents to a .183 batting average against

Schiraldo was 11-14 during the four-game week for a .786 batting average.  She had a double among her 11 hits, while recording nine RBI's, scored eight runs, had one walk, a stolen base, and did not strike out in the four games.
