DIMA'S NO-HITTER KEYS MIDDLESEX SWEEP OF D2 RARITAN VALLEY CC

Alyssa Dima hurled a no-hitter, facing just one batter over the minimum, as Middlesex College swept neighboring Division II Raritan Valley by scores of 3-2 and 9-0.

The Colts (10-1) only collected two hits in the opener, but they we timely, and they used four stolen bases to put pressure on the defense.

In Game 1, Kaitlynne McCarthy (Sophomore/Port Reading, NJ) was stellar in the circle. She held Raritan Valley (2-4) to just two runs on six hits while striking out seven in the complete game win. She has allowed just two walks in her last 32 innings of work. McCarthy, who was just named the GSAC Division III Softball Pitcher of the Week, added an RBI triple and scored a run as well.

Julie Davis (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) and Olivia Tirso (Freshman/Elizabeth, NJ) had the other Colt RBIs. Davis also stole 3 bases in Game 1. Abigail Jason added a walk, a stolen base, and also scored a run.

In Game 2, Dima was the star as she needed only 57 pitches to throw her 5 inning no-hitter. She allowed only one base runner and recorded 2 strikeouts.

Dima also contributed an RBI double and scored a run.

Davis had another great game with the bat, lacing two doubles with one RBI and run scored.

McCarthy had two hits, an RBI, and run scored while Tirso collected two hits, scored a run, and had three RBIs.

Jennah Schiraldo, who was just named the GSAC Division III Player of the Week, also had an RBI for the Colts. Jason (Sophomore/Edison, NJ) had one hit, worked out two walks, and scored two runs. Katelyn Herman (Sophomore/Fords, NJ) and Chloe Oblepias (Sophomore/Carteret, NJ) also scored runs in the game. Jason and Oblepias also had stolen bases for the Colts.

Olivia Vranica (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) got her first start of the season in leftfield in game two. Starting second baseman Oblepias has yet to commit an error through 11 games.

The Colts currently have a .377 team batting average, led by Jason and Schiraldo, both at .500. They are followed by Davis at .457, Oblepias at .444, and Tirso at .417. Davis and McCarthy both have six extra base hits, followed by Tirso with five. Tirso leads the team in RBIs with 18, followed by McCarthy (14), Schiraldo (13), and Davis (11). Jason leads the team in runs scored with 17, followed by Schiraldo (16), and Oblepias and Tirso with 12 each. Jason leads the team in stolen bases with five, followed by Davis and Oblepias with four each. Destiny Gonzalez (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) follows with three stolen bases. The Colts have yet to be caught stealing with a perfect 19-19. Opponents have only been successful twice in five attempts.

The Colts pitching staff currently has a 2.41 E.R.A., and includes two no-hitters. They have only walked 14 batters through 11 games, while striking out 54. The Colts have only committed 16 errors through 11 games, and have turned 5 double plays.

The Colts are back in action on Thursday, traveling to Pennsylvania for a double header against Northampton Community College, weather permitting. First pitch 3:30 pm.
