MIDDLESEX COLLEGE SOFTBALL SWEEPS RARITAN VALLEY BY IDENTICAL 16-5 SCORES

Middlesex College softball used a 12-run fourth inning in Game 1, and an 11-run first inning in Game 2 to dominate NJCAA Division 2 Raritan Valley CC by identical 16-5 scores to move to 6-4 on the season.

In Game 1, Marissa Lugo (Freshman/Iselin, NJ) threw a five-inning complete game with seven strikeouts and two walks while allowing only one earned run.

Madison Szatkowski (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) stroked a double among her three hits and added three RBIs. Grace Damato (Freshman/Edison, NJ), Rebecca Ortiz (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ), Summer Ramirez (Freshman/South Brunswick, NJ), and Kaylen Tavarez (Freshman/Edison, NJ) each recorded two hits in the Colts 13-hit attack. Ortiz collected three RBIs and Damato added 2 RBIs for the Colts.

Carla Seyfarth (Freshman/South Brunswick,, NJ) chipped in with a double, and Tavarez and Kaylin Nepton (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) also contributed RBIs to the offensive attack.

In Game 2, the Colts jumped on Raritan Valley early with an 11-run first inning.

Szatkowski and Seyfarth each collected two hits, a home run, and three RBIs to lead the Colts offense. Rebecca Abbatemarco (Freshman/Edison, NJ) and Tavarez each had a double among their two hits. Damato added three RBIs, and Nepton added two RBIs. Jordan Armstead recorded her first putout to end the game.

Tavarez collected her first win in the circle, going the first four innings while striking out seven and walking one. Ramirez saw her first action as a pitcher, throwing the final inning without allowing an earned run.

Middlesex College is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Sussex Community College. First pitch 3:30 pm.
