SUSSEX CC SWEEPS MIDDLESEX IN SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER

Sussex County College took advantage of five Middlesex errors in Game 1 and six more errors in Game 2 as the Skylanders swept a softball doubleheader from Middlesex College.

The Colts dropped Game 1, 12-4 and fell is Game 2, 7-3.

In Game 1, Marissa Lugo (Freshman/Iselin, NJ) took the loss in the circle, lasting two innings and giving up seven runs--four earned.

The Colts jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Sussex capitalized on multiple Middlesex errors to overcome the deficit. Lugo had two hits and an RBI. Carla Seyfarth (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) had a double and an RBI, and Summer Ramirez (Freshman/South Brunswick, NJ) also added an RBI as the Colts only managed four hits in the contest.

In Game 2, the Skylanders again were the beneficiaries of Colts miscues as Sussex was able to score five unearned runs. Middlesex outhit Sussex 8-6 and were led by Rebecca Ortiz (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) with two hits. Kaylen Tavarez (Freshman/Edison, NJ) collected 2 RBI's, and Kaylen Nepton (Middlesex, NJ) added one RBI for the Colts. Ramirez got the first start of her career, allowing only six hits and two earned runs.

Middlesex is now 6-6 on the season, 4-4 in Region 19, and are back in action on Saturday, traveling to RCSJ-Gloucester for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
