COLTS BATS STAY HOT IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF CAMDEN CC

Throughout the first part of the 2024 season, Middlesex College softball has been among the top offensive teams in the country. They continued that trend with a key doubleheader sweep of Camden CC.

The Colts won Game 1, 15-0 and won game two by the mercy rule as well, topping the Cougars 11-3. Middlesex is batting .467 as a team, the second best average in the country among NJCAA Division III teams. They also rank second in on base percentage (.586) and third in slugging percentage (.634).

Middlesex moved to 9-3 overall and 6-0 in Region 19 D3 play on the season. Camden CC fell to 5-6.

In Game 1, the Colts banged out 12 hits in five innings with Kaylin Nepton (Sophomore/Middlesex, NJ) leading the way with a three-hit effort. Nepton had a triple among her hits and added three RBIs.

Sarah Ohnmeiss (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) hit her first collegiate home run and drove home two runs. Madison Szatkowski (Sophomore/Sayreville, NJ) and Marissa Lugo (Sophomore/Iselin, NJ) had two hits and scored two runs each in Game 1.

Summer Ramirez (Sophomore/South Brunswick, NJ) picked up the win in the circle, going four shutout innings and allowing just one hit.

Game 2 was a closer affair, but Middlesex pulled away late, ending the game with a four-run fifth. Nepton, Szatkowski, Ohnmeiss and Leah Kripaitis (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) each had two hits in the game with Szatkowski's coming as triples. Nepton had four RBIs to pace the attack.

Simirrah Ortiz (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) tripled home the 11th and final run of the game for the Colts.

Once again, Ramirez picked up the win in the circle, going the distance on a six-hitter. She allowed two earned runs and struck out three.

Middlesex bounces right back on Thursday when they travel to Raritan Valley for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM.
