MIDDLESEX COLLEGE SOFTBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO 11 WITH SWEEP OF DUTCHESS CC

Gianna Rios had six hits in the doubleheader and Kelsey Geurts and Ava Austin performed well in the circle as Middlesex College softball extended their winning streak to 11 games with a home sweep of Dutchess CC.

The Colts won Game 1, 901 and took Game 2, 16-8 to move to 13-1 on the season.

In Game 1, Middlesex jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added single runs in the second and third innings while Geurts allowed just one run on two hits in three innings. Austin pitched three hitless innings to close out the victory.

Madison Rackett (Sophomore/Woodbridge, NJ) went 2-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a home run to pace the Colts. Rios went 3-4 with an RBI and Makenzie Marsh (Sophomore/Middlesex, NJ) went 3-4 with a run.

Carla Seyfarth (Sophomore/Monmouth Junction, NJ) went 2-4 with two runs and three RBIs and Samirrah Ortiz (Sophomore/Woodbridge, NJ) also added two hits in the win.

In Game 2, Middlesex again jumped out to an early lead, plating four runs in the first and five more in the second.

Middlesex carried a commanding 16-2 lead into the fifth when Dutchess rallied for six runs, but the Colts escaped the inning with the mercy rule intact to capture the win.

Rios again went 3-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Leah Kripaitis went 3-3 with two runs and an RBI and Rackett and Geurts had two hits apiece. Geurts also added three RBIs.

Austin went the distance in the circle and pitched well despite six errors by the Colts. Austin allowed just one earned run and didn't walk a batter while striking out six.

Middlesex will put their winning streak on the line on Tuesday when they are scheduled to host Northampton, the #9 team in the latest NJCAA National Poll, on Tuesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30.
