MIDDLESEX COLLEGE SOFTBALL FINISHES 2026 CAMPAIGN WITH SWEEP OF RCSJ-CUMBERLAND
On the final day of the 2026 campaign, Middlesex College Softball was able to pick up three wins to end their season on a high note.
The Colts faced RCSJ-Cumberland and won the continuation of a halted game from earlier in the season before sweeping the Dukes in a doubleheader.
Middlesex won the continuation game 12-3, then won both ends of the doubleheader by scored of 15-7 and 17-15. The Colts finished the season with a record of 8-26.
In Game 1 of the doubleheader, both teams started strongly on offense and after 2 innings, the score was 7-6 with Middlesex on top. After shutting down the Dukes in the top of the third, Middlesex kept the party going on offense by scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 15-6 lead.
The Dukes were able to add a single run in the top of the fifth, but Middlesex was able to limit the damage there and capture the victory due to the mercy rule.
The Colts scored 15 runs on just 6 hits, taking advantage of 11 walks by RCSJ-Cumberland pitching. Kiarelys Santiago Soto went 2-3 with a walk a run and 2 RBIs to lead the Colts offense. Rayna Serronico went 1-2 with a walk, 2 runs and 3 RBIs.
Kylie Rackett picked up the win in the circle for Middlesex. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 earned runs on 3 hits.
Game 2 was a wild affair that saw 32 total runs on 40 hits with 10 errors and in the end, it was the Colts who came out on top.
RCSJ-Cumberland held an 11-10 lead through four innings and after a scoreless top of the fifth, Middlesex put up 5 runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 15-11 lead. The Dukes answered right back in the top of the fifth though, plating 4 runs to tie the game at 15.
With two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the sixth, Gianna Rios smoked a ground ball between third and short that was initially knocked down by the RCSJ-Cumberland shortstop. The go-ahead run scored on the infield hit and as the ball bounced away, the Colts were able to send the trail runner in to score as well.
Rackett got through the top of the seventh unscathed to seal the win in the Colts final game of the year. She also went 4-4 with 5 runs scored, a walk and an RBI batting leadoff. Rios had a big day at the plate as well, going 3-4 with 2 runs, a walk and 5 RBIs.
Soto went 3-4 with 4 runs scored for Middlesex as well.
