RIVAS (17 PTS, 14 REBS) LEADS MIDDLESEX WOMENS BASKETBALL TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Vanessa Rivas netted 17 points and had 14 rebounds as the Middlesex College Women's Basketball team remained hot, topping Berkeley College 61-57 in a vital game as the Colts vie for a Region XIX playoff spot in the final weeks of the 2022-23 season.

Middlesex has now won five straight games and stands at 10-13 with five games remaining in the season.

Berkeley (2-20) and Middlesex battled closely for the entirety of the contest. The Colts opened a 19-14 lead after one and Berkeley returned the favor, outscoring Middlesex 17-14 in the second quarter.

Each team scored 11 and 17 points in the third and fourth quarter, respectively, as the game ended with Middlesex hanging on to a four-point advantage.

Carla Seyfarth (Freshman/South Brunswick, NJ) had 13 points for Middlesex and Franchesca Derilus (Sophomore/Port St. Lucie, FL) added 12.

Courtney Hansen (Freshman/Carteret, NJ) had five assists to lead Middlesex and Kaylin Nepton (Freshman/Middlesex, NJ) had six points off the bench.

With just five games left in the regular season, each game is crucial as the Colts continue to push for a playoff berth. They are back in action Wednesday against RCSJ-Cumberland in a makeup of a previously postponed game. Middlesex topped the Dukes less than two weeks ago in their first matchup. Tipoff is set for 6:00PM.
