MIDDLESEX SWEPT BY RARITAN VALLEY IN HARD-FOUGHT MATCH
Middlesex College held late leads in the first and third sets, but couldn't close out Raritan Valley, who swept the Colts in three sets.
Middlesex (3-2) led much of the first set and was up 22-19 before the Lions rattled off six straight points for the win. In the second set, Middlesex and Raritan Valley (6-4) were knotted at 10 before the Lions went on a 15-5 run to end the match.
"I felt the team played well and gave fans something to cheer about multiple times throughout the match, said Head Coach Henry Romero. "Raritan is a very strong team and we definitely like having the opportunity to test ourselves every time we face them."
The Colts showed tremendous determination and played their best set in the third. Middlesex was up 22-19 and 23-21, but ultimately fell to Raritan 26-24.
Emi Thai (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) made a number of fantastic plays and finished with a season-high 26 digs. Kilanny Ramos-Adrian (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ) had 15 assists and seven digs and Adrianna Pellei (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) had eight service points, five kills and eight digs. Johanna Kovalewich (Freshman/Colonia, NJ) added 11 kills and nine digs.
The sweep was Raritan Valley's sixth straight win and fifth straight sweep.
Middlesex College has another tough match this Wednesday when they take on Brookdale College at home for a 6:00PM start.
