KOVALEWICH SETS SEASON HIGH WITH 22 KILLS AS MIDDLESEX TOPS PASSAIC, 3-1
Johanna Kovalewich had 22 kills and Kilanny Ramos-Adrian has 33 assists as Middlesex College topped Passaic County College in four sets in women's volleyball action.
The totals marked season highs for both Kovalewich (Freshman/Colonia, NJ) and Ramos-Adrian (Sophomore/Perth Amboy, NJ).
"Today's win was a much-needed one," said Head Coach Henry Romero. "We had to pull together as a team to get the job done."
Adrianna Pellei (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) had seven service points, six kills and nine digs. Rachel Erla (Sophomore/Sayreville NJ) had five kills and Isabelle Shields (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) had ten service points, nine kills and a season-high 15 digs.
Middlesex (6-4) won the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-30. Passaic took set three, 25-17 but then the Colts bounced back to take the fourth set and the match, 25-15.
The Colts were playing without libero Emi Thai (Freshman/Old Bridge, NJ) who was injured in the previous match.
Romero credited Kelly Bartko (Freshman/Edison, NJ) for stepping in and filling the void left by Thai, who has been a key player for the Colts this year.
"We lost Emi to an injury Saturday and Kelly had to fill in for her," said Romero. "Kelly has been able to play various positions for us this season and that has been a big help."
Middlesex tarvels to Bergen Community College Wednesday for their next match, which starts at 6pm. The Colts previously swept the Bulldogs at home this year.
