MIDDLESEX VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS RCSJ-GLOUCESTER FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

The Middlesex College Women's Volleyball team got into the win column for the first time in 2022 with a sweep of RCSJ-Gloucester.

The Colts won three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16. 

Middlesex (1-2) built a lead of 16-10 in the first set, but an 8-2 run by RCSJ-Gloucester (0-3) knotted the set up at 18. The teams traded points before the Colts broke a 21-21 tie by scoring the final four points to capture the first set.

The second set was a testament to the Colts' resolve as they fell behind 6-1 and struggled to makup the difference. The Colts got within two points at 9-7, 10-8 and 14-16 before using a using an 8-1 run to surpass the Roadrunners late in the match. Middlesex ended the match on a 12-5 run, spurred on by an impressive kill by Sandra Starcevic (Freshman/Highland Park, NJ).

Middlesex used that momentum to jump out to a commanding lead in set three, building a 7-3 lead in the early going. The Roadrunners were able to close the gap to two after a Colts error made it 13-11, but Middlesex ended the set with another 12-5 run to nail down the sweep. 

Adrianna Pellei (Sophomore/Sayreville, NJ) led the way for the Colts with 12 service points, including five aces. Julia Milevoi (Freshman/Woodbridge, NJ) had six kills, Isabelle Shields (Sophomore/Old Bridge, NJ) had 10 service points, three aces and eight kills. Starcevic had five kills and three blocks and Karla Berrios (Sophomore/New Brunswick, NJ) paced the Colts with 15 digs.

Middlesex is scheduled to return to action on Monday when they travel to Raritan Valley CC for a 6:00PM start time.
