Isiah Figueroa recorded ten strikeouts over five innings and Connor Luckie went 2-3 with five RBIs as Middlesex College Baseball topped Monroe College 17-4 in Game 2 of a Sunday doubleheader at Middlesex.
The Colts also won Game 1, 12-4.
In Game 1, Middlesex (11-6) erupted for ten runs in the second inning and cruised from that point on. Monroe fell to 6-8 on the season.
Keifer Goss (Sophomore/Hamilton, NJ) belted his first collegiate home run and Colby Chippendale (Sophomore/North Port, FL) went 2-3 with two runs and two RBIs and a double.
The Colts took advantage of 10 walks by Monroe.
Ryan Poulson (Freshman/Milltown, NJ) picked up his first win, allowing three earned runs over six innings while striking out eight.
In Game 2, the Colts bats were hot early again as they put up ten runs in the first two innings.
Thomas O'Halloran (Freshman/Fords, NJ) led the way offensively, going 3-4 with two runs and an RBI. Luckie, Nicholas Loniewski (Sophomore/South Plainfield, NJ) and Roberto Gonzalez (Freshman/South Plainfield, NJ) had two hits apiece. Both of Luckie's hits were doubles and Gonzalez had three RBIs.
Figueroa was fantastic on the mound in picking up his second win of the year. The sophomore righty from Old Bridge allowed just one hit in five innings and has allowed just two hits and one earned run in 11 innings this year. He has also struck out 17 batters on the season.
Luckie continued his terrific season and currently leads the team with a .452 batting average. His 20 RBIs are nearly triple that of anyone on the team and rank second in the nation among NJCAA Division III players who have played less than 15 games.
