After a successful trip to Myrtle Beach to open the 2026 season, the Middlesex College baseball team returned home to open Region 19 play with a three game set against Delaware County CC.
The Colts kept things rolling with a three-game sweep in which the offense accounted for 59 runs in the series, winning their games by scores of 15-3, 25-1 and 19-1. Middlesex is now 7-3 on the season.
Alfredo Gonzalez and John Oranchak led the offense in support of Jayden Mercado in Game 1 of the series. Gonzalez had 3 hits, including a double and home run, while contributing 5 RBIs. The sophomore catcher also stole two bases.
Oranchak belted a homer as well and drove in four runs. Drew Lukachyk was another of the many Colts who enjoyed success in the opener, scoring 4 runs while notching 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.
Mercado struck out 5 over 4 innings in securing his second win of the season.
The Colts increased their offensive output in Game 2 with many different players contributing offensively. Jaime Tamayo had 3 hits with 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored and Michael Ramirez hit 2 doubles, scored 2 runs and had 5 RBIs.
Ryan Acquisto drove in 3 runs and had a double among his two hits and David DePierro had 2 hits, an RBI a run and a walk.
Freshman righty Nicholas Anderson picked up the win, allowing just 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 8.
Middlesex kept the party going on Sunday putting up another big game with the bats and getting contributions from many different players.
Stanley Bobadilla filled up the box score for the Colts. The freshman infielder logged 4 hits with 2 doubles, 4 runs scored, 2 RBIs and a stolen base.
Second baseman Chris Fogarile had another nice game at the plate with 2 hits, 3 runs and 3 RBIs. Gonzalez also had his second big day in a row with 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBIs.
Connor Levine pitched 4 one-hit innings with 7 strikeouts to pick up his first collegiate win.
The Colts are scheduled to return to the diamond on Tuesday when they host Montgomery CC. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00PM.
